This
beautiful collection of watercolours was commissioned
for a book on birds of the world in the early 1900's.
The artists were Lydia Kingsley Kefford (nee Lydia
Kingsley RA.) and H Goodchild. The pictures are
dated between 1898 and 1908, so this project took a
full ten years to complete.
The
paintings consist of mainly dove and pigeon varieties
with a few finch and pheasant species. The book was
undertaken mainly because the Latin names for many species
had changed by the end of the 19th century, and required
updating.
The
paintings can be sold as a collection or as individual
pieces of art. At the moment ten paintings are framed
and the rest are loose.
