J Somalvico, 41 Kirby Street, Hatton Gardens, London.
Recorded as working 1810-30. The Somalvico family were regarded
as one of the best Barometer and instrument makers of their time.
This is a good example of the quality of work that can be produced.
The barometer is 41" tall, having a 10" dial with a good long 12"
thermometer. Hygrometer and level. The case has a stunning tiger
stripe mahogany veneer, with ebony and boxwood stringing to the
outer edge. High quality engraving throughout the four dials. The
hygrometer plate clearly signed J Somalvico, 41 Kirby street, Hatton
Gardens.
