Wc158 - Sailing in a Moonlit Sky
J W GOZZARD (1888-1950)

Painter and illustrator, Gozzards work can often be found as prints and postcards. This is a good example of his work reflecting the quality of the artist, although very unusual to find a seascape. The painting is watercolour heightened with white. This is a delightful work, showing the moonlight reflecting across the sea. In the distance on the horizon a steamer comes into view. The painting is signed lower right J W G.

Born in litchfield staffordshire. Valentines of Dundee produced a series of highland postcards. He did not exhibit. He also painted under the name F Arnold.

We leave sold items to give clients an idea of the sort of stock we carry and like to purchase. Gozzard was a prolific artist, so prices for his work vary. Watercolour's can be bought for as little as £200 and oils for £350 although his better pieces can command reasonable sums.

Having said this, some work will make many thousands. As so many prints were produced these can be purchase in general antique shops for under £100. Depending on condition and frame etc.
